Social systems in the USA

Each person is responsible for his own fate

Health and welfare programs are organized by states

40 million Americans have neither the money nor the insurance to cover their access to treatment.

It is worst for those who are self employed, because they get no insurance by an employer and they are not poor enough to get Medicaid.

Medicaid- It is a government program for the poorest once in the USA.

unemployment insurance, social security, and welfare programs do exist, however they are comprehensive.

unemployment benefits are only about 60% of one's average salary and are limited to twelve months in most states

after 12 months ( charity organizations for food and shelter)

If you have money, you have a grate advantage of the American health care system. High quality care- easily available without waiting.

Cloning

Cloning means to make identical copies from a living animal, plant or human being

A clone means to have a collection of identical copies

In gene technology, the word cloning is central
The sheep Dolly was cloned by an embroy- technological experiment

FN has laws which is connected to cloning
FN wants to make re- productive cloning forbidden
make the donor decide for himself if he/she wants to be named or not
make an overview. Mechanisms should approve and watch all research of human cells
New stem cells should be available to every serious stem cell- scientist.

The ethics around this is pointing to the one side which says that cloning and experiments with living animals and humans, should be done carefully and rather be forgotten than used. Some also says that cloning can make great progress in the medical world.

But you should also think about, if the child survived cloning, there's no guarantee that it would develop naturally... You have to take the chance that MAYBE the child wouldn't be like any other child.

Questions are asked about the psychilogical effects of cloning. Would a cloned child feel like a unique individual, or like anyone else?

And last but not least: What would a world with only clones be like? Confusing?

CONSUMERISM

Definition
To acquire and spending of goods and services. Either it's private or public.

Associated with capitalism and the Western world
It had to be created a new culture to increase the consumption

Hollywood can be a example of overspending with bout goods and services

MacDonalds can be a picture if what America is going to look like if they don't increase their private consumption, and all the problems their over consumption cases. Because overweight is a serious problem for the whole country America.

60 minutes 4 march
David Walker an accountant for the US government and he says

“What’s going on right now is we’re spending more money than we make…we’re charging it to credit card…and expecting our grandchildren to pay for it. And that’s absolutely outrageous"

America is now spending overt their budget, and no one wants to talk about it. Its been called the “ dirty little secret everyone in Washington knows”

Trends
As of today, emissions in USA and Canada are consistently high and well above those for any other region (other regions being north and south-Europe). The United States continues to be the largest single national source of fossil fuel-related CO2 emissions with emissions of 1580 million metric tons of carbon in 2003.
The U.S. has emitted almost 86 billion metric tons of carbon since 1800 from fossil-fuel consumption and cement production. In fact, U.S. fossil-fuel emissions are 28% higher than those of the world's second largest emitter, China. The effects of the oil price shocks in the late 1970s, which had a huge impact on U.S. emissions during the early 1980s, are gone. In 2003, just over 42% of U.S. fossil-fuel emissions came from the consumption of petroleum products. The United States was completely reliant on coal until after the Industrial Revolution, and now coal usage accounts for aproximately 36% of U.S. fossil-fuel CO2 emissions. So in total, the use of fossil fuel and coal stands for 78% of the total CO2 emissions from the US
The United States of America is the greatest poluter in history, being at the very least two and a half percent ahead of every other country, this due to population and size of country. In modern times the US emissions are 28% over the emissions of China.

The United States do not apply themselves to the Kyoto-protocol, as they find it unfair that such big pollutants as India and China have not yet signed the contract. The United States is also the largest pollutant, but their lead has decreased due to population growth in the rest of the world. The amount of emissions in the U.S. is the same, though. This is because the world’s population and economy has changed, and the rest of the world is catching up. The weird thing is that the US has virtually no oil (and petroleum) but deals in this area as if they had the biggest supplies on the planet. The bigger part of American society seemes to be oblivious to the fact that their country consumes more natural resources than any other country, and produces the largest amount of waste damaging to the environment. They say that they have plans to lower the nations polluting emissions, and make similar plans for the entire world, but according to Al Gore, they do not follow their plans at all. From my point of view the Americans are a bit careless when it comes to the environmental issues.
